James Alton Films

James is a partner in Kelowna Film Studios and also runs his own film and photography studio in Kelowna B.C. After successfully completing our visual branding for KFS, we began work on James’ own personal brand. We wanted to come up with something that looked great on a website but equally good on a truck pulling onto a film set.

The logo was created to resemble the milky way galaxy with its arms stretched out as well as a camera iris. Through our branding process and some lengthy discussions, we chose colours and fonts.

See below some examples of the brand at work.

After exploring the brief we moved into stylescapes to narrow down our ideas and visualize how those ideas might work. James wanted to work with a blue palette and explore browns and golds. We also wanted to explore simple geometric shapes for the logo mark.

A brief mention of his love of space inspired me to create an abstract galaxy mark that also works well as a camera iris. Although this is not the main logo, it allows us to get creative in the future.

This stacked wordmark sits perfectly in a square and works well for many uses while being unique.

The look was brought together in various examples including social. Font pairings, gradients and photo treatments were also explored and demonstrated.

Website demonstration and an idea for a pitch deck book that could be used for pitching new clients and projects. James also really wanted to have a slick truck wrap, reminiscent of the construction trucks he would see around town. We came up with this dark to light treatment that hints at the off set and on set juxtaposition of light.
