Kelowna Film Studios

LOGO / VISUAL BRANDING / VARIOUS ASSETS

Kelowna Film Stuios needed a full ground-up visual brand which included logo, colours and other branding assets to give a face to their brand new studio in beautiful Kelowna, B.C. The focus for this studio is to give the film industry a professional and easily-accessible, full-featured, studio space to film. The space also doubles as an event space and photography studio hosting everything from photos with Santa to Casino nights.

The first step is to ask a lot of questions and figure out who we are trying to appeal to, our end user. See below as I walk you through the process that allowed us to create the right solution for Kelowna Film Studios, on time and on budget.

To remain on the right path during our visual branding process, its essential to get the feel right. Depending on the project, I like to use stylescapes or moodboards. Working from the conversations, questions and the user persona, I gather inspiration to set the tone and display as a stylescape.

This option focused on the keywords clean, organized, high quality and urban.

We explored a creative, indigenous option which ultimately was not the right direction.

This stylescape focused on Kelowna itself, the mountains and the keywords ambition, professional, prepared and quiet.

After narrowing down the direction with the team, I moved into refinement which included exploring logo ideas, colour options and fonts. Throughout the process, we also explored how to bring the look into the building itself. Below is a refined stylescape demonstrating how the visual brand moves into various assets and environments.

The Kelowna Film Studios ‘K’ mark is built from the four pillars or partners in the business.
Four lines created by one uncut continuous line. This idea and element was brought into other areas as a design element.
